Fire TV/Stick Replacement Remote
Do you need a Fire TV replacement remote? This article will provide you with the best options and show you how to use each of them. These remote alternatives will also work with the Fire TV Stick as well.
If you have lost or broken a Fire TV remote then you know how frustrating it is to find or purchase a new one. Luckily, there are a few alternatives that work great with the Fire TV box and Stick. Many users even find these better than the actual remote as they offer some additional features.
The three options shown below are the Fire TV Remote App (free), CetusPlay App (free), and Rii Wireless Keyboard.
Fire TV Remote App
One of the best and simplest options when looking for a replacement remote for your Fire TV Box or Fire TV Stick is the Fire TV Remote App. This is a free app downloaded to an iPhone, Android, or any other Smartphone that works exactly as your previous Fire TV remote. The Apple App Store, Google Play, or any place that holds your phone’s applications all carry the remote app. Just do a quick search for Amazon Fire TV Remote or use the links below:
Installing the Fire TV Remote App
Upon installation, the Fire TV Remote App functions the same as a Fire TV Remote. It acts as a secondary Fire TV remote with a few added extras to boot. Shown below is a screenshot of the App on an iPhone 6S.
Once the App is installed, you will need to connect the Fire TV device to your phone via Wi-Fi. The phone and Fire TV must be connected to the same Wi-Fi Network for use. After opening the App, it will detect your device(s).
To Pair the Fire TV Remote App with your Device you must:
- Select the Fire TV/Stick device you will be using
- Once chosen, look for a 4 digit code that will appear on your TV
- Type this code into your phone’s App
- When recognized, it will access the Fire TV Remote App
The picture below shows all functions of your new Fire TV remote.
The center of the Application is a touch pad for navigating through your Fire TV. Swipe left, right, up, and down to move and operate the device. Tapping the center of the screen will click or select. The buttons on the bottom function exactly the same as a typical Fire TV remote would. And on top is a toolbar that can be used for numerous capabilities within the device.
Fire TV Replacement Remote Benefits
As you can see, there are some great benefits to using the App versus the actual remote for Fire TV. Many older generation Fire TV’s do not offer Alexa Voice Assist with the compatible remote. Using the App gains access to Alexa with any generation Fire TV.
The Apps and Games Tool opens all downloaded Games & Applications on your phone for easy selection rather than having to scroll through them on the television. You can also move them around to suit your preference.
One of the coolest features available on the remote App is the Keyboard option. We all know how frustrating and time consuming it is typing in a search bar using the Fire TV remote. With the App, you always have the option to select the Keyboard and type e-mail addresses, searches, etc.
There are plenty of options to explore within the Fire TV Remote App. After testing the remote it is easy to see why many prefer this App to the actual remote for their Amazon Fire TV devices.
CetusPlay is an all-in-one Remote app that is compatible with numerous devices as a replacement remote control. This free app is available for download on the Google Play Store as well as Apple’s App Store. You can install on your mobile device by searching for CetusPlay or using the links below:
After installation, CetusPlay is able to link up with tons of devices including your Fire TV box/Stick. To pair the app, simply click the Configure button in the upper left hand corner and choose your device. Pictured below is a screenshot of CetusPlay on an iPhone 6S.
One of the coolest features of the CetusPlay App is its different navigation modes. It offers Direction-Pad mode, Touch Pad mode, Keyboard mode, and mouse mode. These options are available in the upper right hand corner of the app. After testing, you will be sure to find one that suits your preference.
Just like the Fire TV Remote App, Cetus has a “My Apps” Tab that lists all of your downloaded apps. This makes it easy to quickly open an app rather than scrolling through all downloaded applications.
CetusPlay also gives you the ability to sideload hundreds of applications with just the click of a button. Using the “Application Center” Tab available on the app, you can scroll through popular apps and install using only your phone. This is a great way to install Kodi, Mobdro, Terrarium TV, or any other resource you may want.
Within the Options Category a “Play on TV” Section allows you to cast photos and videos stored on your phone right onto your television screen. There is also a “Clean Master” on the bottom of the application which closes all apps that are not in use on your device.
The CetusPlay App has tons of awesome features and abilities. Overall it is a great Fire TV/Stick replacement remote that doubles as a universal remote for numerous streaming devices.
Rii Wireless Keyboard
Using a keyboard as a replacement remote for a Fire TV box or Stick is a great alternative to the original remote. With a keyboard paired to your device, numerous apps and functions will now be available that weren’t before. Bluetooth Keyboards like the Rii i8+ Mini Wireless Keyboard will enable you to sideload applications that previously could not be installed.
Not only does the Rii Wireless Keyboard work with a Fire TV Box or Stick but you can also pair it with almost any Bluetooth compatible device. This gadget is more than just your typical keyboard. The Rii Mini Keyboard offers a touch pad, rechargeable Li-ion battery, and fully functional QWERTY keypad. It is extremely light and versatile and a great upgrade for Fire TV users. Pictured below is the Rii i8+ 2.4 GHz Mini Wireless Keyboard.

Can you set up a Firestick 1st Gen without remote? I’ve tried a few remotes and they all need to be in the same network to work. I can get past the remote pair at the beginning.

If you have another firestick remote you should be able to pair it with the first gen firestick.

Hi, great review. I downloaded CetusPlay on my iPhone. It started and loaded the CetusPlay on my Amazon fire stick second generation. For the navigation only the home button works. I restarted my iPhone and my fire stick and still had the same problem. None of the controls on the CetusPlay remote work except home. How do I get the other navigation controls to work?

Hi, I have moved house. I have always used the five tv app remote (since my dog chewed the actual remote!) but now I’ve moved I need to change the WiFi network the fire tv is registered to, but can’t do this as I the remote app won’t pair as it’s not on the same network! Is there a way aroun this? Will a new remote work? Thanks!

My original android Fire TV remote won’t work when using IPVANISH. Is this the case with the new remote, also?
I have an AERB 2.4G Air Mouse & Keyboard Remote that I used with my Fire TV 2nd Generation. However, I now have the latest Fire TV box and there in no place for a dongle on the box. So, the remote can not be used with the new Fire TV box. Any suggestions????

I haven’t been able to get my Iphone app to work on any of my other tvs. It synched fine to my first tv, but it won’t sync with the other two. I go to either of my other tvs, select that tv, then it asks to enter the four-digit code, but the code does not come up on the tv.

Terre, try turning off your other two devices when you are trying to sync each one. It could be getting interfered with by the other Fire TV’s.
